This was recorded at 1:30 in the afternoon on a beautiful, mild november day in 2020. Very pleasing to listen to, and probably helps to bring back memories of your own, warm childhood memories. Even though covid-19 is causing a huge problem all over the world, i find it very soothing and comforting knowing, despite the pandemic, kids are still doing what they've been doing since, well, forever, playing and laughing and having the care-free fun time of their life. A beautiful, simple and peaceful soundscape of a late summer day in illinois near an ancient swamp. This recording was made around 8 in the morning on a warm and slightly humid day in late september using the marantz pmd661 and a rode ntg2 shotgun microphone. Do you sense the insects are more subdued than usual? as if they, too, are waiting for the cooler masses of early autumn?? the overall loudness of the birds is also down somewhat, maybe some of our neotropical migrants have already left. . . . Taking with them the wonderful midwest diet and warm memories of raising the next generations of their kind before the swamp turns gray, and cold and inhospitable for raising a family. . Enjoy, what i consider a turning point of the seasons.

Recorded on mid-summer (that looked like mid-autumn) day 2010 in vilnius with a simple olympus voice recorder. I placed an old piece of metal sheet on a broken glass fish tank near a garage wall to catch the drops, recorder was placed in the middle of the sheet. The rain was very light and fine, later it intensified and became lighter again - all this is heard in the recording. Unfortunately three recorder beeps are heard at the end signaling that it was running out of memory. I later decided to leave them in as it quite unexpectedly added some drama to the whole record. . .

A stereo recording made at 4:50pm on saturday september 12th 2015 of the ambience of a small town near a playground. Up until this day, the weather here in the midwest had been your typical high-heat high-humidity. But, the day before this field-recording was made the wonderful jet-stream had dropped down on us, a cool, mass of less-humid canadian air, making the leaves sing through the trees with the lifting of the northwest breezes. A gentle tinkling wind-chime can be heard from 1:05 to 1:20. Recording made in stereo with marantz pmd661 and two sennheiser me66 microphones mounted on tripods about 4 feet off the ground.

The tv weather guy said watch out, saturday october 17 2020 is going to be very breezy, with sustained winds out of the southwest at 20 mph, with many gusts at 30mph. A perfect day in a midwest small-town neighborhood for painting a picture of peace, and thoughtful reminiscing in mid october. From time to time you will hear the distant sound of creaking swings and laughter from a kids playground. A drowsy, warm lazy hot day in mid-summer in the forest of the midwestern usa. As is the case around mid-july, the birds are not singing as much. Perhaps they are just exhausted from raising a family and wilting from the heat. The insect chorus ebbs and flows, like the ocean waves creeping up on the beach, and retreating back. Except, unlike the ocean which never stops moving, the insects will eventually stop singing and hibernate for the winter. I have always loved the sound of propeller-driven planes and their slow, molasses-like sound. That sound has always induced a melancholy touch to the recordings. To me, this drowsing plane symbolizes change -- even though the birds and plants are still in full growth, the end is near. . . In about four more weeks schools will resume, the emphasis for many will turn inward. Leaving the woods to deal with the transition. The droning plane, like ocean waves, symbolize change. . . In several months there woods will be drastically changed. Recording made on july 18, 2022 using sound devices mixpre 6 and the sennheiser mkh 8020 omnidirectional microphone.
